Topic: A Roadmap for Fixed Income Investing in a Low Rate Environment
Passively managed vehicles have grown exponentially over the past decade, buoyed by low fees, ease of use, and robust returns.
But with yields at all-time lows, the risk of indexed strategies has steadily increased. If rates remain near current levels, then all is well. But if 2019’s historic fixed income rally is a short-term phenomenon (e.g., a bubble), passive vehicles could struggle.
During the presentation, Eddy Vataru, a portfolio manager experienced in passive, active and absolute return strategies, will review each approach and evaluate them in the context of the current environment. Additionally, he will discuss the benefits and risks of both quantitative and fundamental investment disciplines. Finally, he will share his outlook for the investment-grade fixed income market.
About the Speaker: Eddy Vataru, CFA · Chief Investment Officer – Total Return; Lead Portfolio Manager of the Osterweis Total Return Fund (OSTRX)
Eddy Vataru graduated from California Institute of Technology (B.S. Chemistry & Economics) and from Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis (M.B.A.). Mr. Vataru holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2016, Mr. Vataru worked in senior management positions at Incapture, LLC and Citadel, LLC. Prior to that he spent over 11 years at BlackRock (formerly, Barclays Global Investors), where his last position was as Managing Director and Head of U.S. Rates and Mortgages.
Mr. Vataru is a principal of Osterweis Capital Management and a Portfolio Manager for the total return fixed income strategy.
