Brown Bag – Senior Housing and Quality of Life: Understanding Your Options

Brown Bags are lunchtime meetings with a focused topic and speaker, typically attended by 10-12 people, providing a more casual and intimate setting to learn about and discuss specific topics. These meetings are offered at a nominal cost of $10 to FPA members, $25 for non-members, with attendees bringing a bag lunch. Pre-registration is required and attendance is limited to 12 based upon conference room space.

Affordable, accessible, and well-located housing is central to quality of life for people of all ages, but especially for older adults. As the single largest item in most household budgets, housing costs directly affect day-to-day financial security. In addition, the entire concept of what seniors consider a good life has changed in profound ways. People want an active life — physically, mentally and socially — and your choice of a living environment should offer those amenities.
Education, planning and resources are the key to making the best housing choice for you.

About the Speaker:

Jim McCabe, DSW, MSW, MPH is the President of Eldercare Resources. He has more than 25 years of experience in health care and long term care planning. Dr. McCabe has twice served on the Board of the American Society on Aging and is a member of thel Financial Planning Association. He is the author of the book Solving the Housing Retirement Puzzle: 20 Tips to Help You Make the Right Decision, and is a frequent contributor to journals and newsletters.
